DIE TOTEN HOSEN - YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE
The German punk rock super group Die Toten Hosen is a phenomenon of superlatives. In this music documentary Cordula Kablitz-Post accompanies the legendary and most successful German-speaking rock band on one of their biggest tours in band history, both in the limelight and backstage with „access all areas“.
Founded in 1982, with roots in German punk, the band has been writing songs for 36 years in which politics, fun and sometimes provocation are by no means at cross purposes and which reflect the present more than any other German band. For lead singer and lyricist Campino, in the late 1970s and early 1980s punk was the alternative to the stuffy reality of life in West Germany. Today, their attitude is still punk, in spite of their phenomenal success of selling over 19 million records. The result is an intimate portrait of the band, but also the documentation of a huge tour that resembles a rollercoaster of emotions: After celebrated concerts the abrupt stop due to the sudden hearing loss of singer Campino, doubts and new beginnings, the triumphant return in the band’s hometown stadium and at the end of the year the performance at their own "Hosen-Fest" in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Multiple Grammy nominated British music film director Paul Dugdale co-directed the concert recordings and is known for his work with the Rolling Stones and Coldplay among others.
